Let’s Talk About Child Sexual Abuse.

“Why are you now behaving like a small girl”?
.
“If you tell anybody, you’ll die”
.
“Come inside the house, let me show you something”
.
Sigh.

.
There’s always this pain in my heart whenever I have to talk about child molestation. I did an unofficial survey amongst my family and friends like 6 years ago, and everybody I spoke to had been touched inappropriately as a child (both genders).
.
Why then aren’t we conscious of the fact that paedophiles are everywhere. Some of them are the innocent looking men/women we see often, the hardworking “house helps” that are like lifesavers, the religious leaders that we trust, lesson teachers that you entrust your kids with.
.
Child Sexual abuse is rampant, but how many people are actually talking about it? How much of an awareness are we creating?
.
There’s a shame surrounding victims of sexual abuse in Nigeria. Its like a taboo to actually say you’ve been sexually molested whether as a child or an adult. Somehow, the society makes it your fault instead of dealing with the perpetrator. Which way Nigeria?
.
Would you like to talk about your experience? If you’ve not still come to terms with it, you can be anonymous. We need parents/guardians to see the need to make extra efforts in ensuring that their kids are safe. We owe our kids that much. Send me a DM if you are interested to talk or share with someone who would be glad to share his/her story.
